The GOC Senior Christmas Gala Concert was held on the 9th of December 2013, at the Rowers on Cooks River in Wolli Creek, celebrating the commencement of the Festive Season by bringing together all our Seniors’ Groups to enjoy the party atmosphere with a full program of entertainment and prizes.
Students from the Greek Orthodox Community Pre- Schools performed a Christmas play in costume and sang several Greek children songs for our participants. It was lovely to see so many children from different ethnic backgrounds come together in the Greek language to display a musical and theatrical show, beginning the entertainment for the day.
All participants enjoyed a three course meal whilst being entertained by an award winning Elvis Tribute Show. Elvis impersonator Mike Tsama showcased many costume changes, guitars and songs we all knew from his time as a singer, soldier and actor in the 50’s.
Konstantinos Diamantopoulos a student with our Greek Language Afternoon Schools portrayed
his natural talent and confidence whilst his playing a variety of well-known Greek songs on the bouzouki.
Our volunteers received certificates and flowers on the day in gratitude for their hard work, time and support throughout the year.
All enjoyed the day and a surprise visit from Santa Claus who had gifts for all, including show bags filled with various items and congratulations to all who won a lucky door prize.
The GOC Welfare Service would like to thank the Community Relations Commission and Canterbury Council for their support and San Remo, Dolmio, Fantastic Crackers, Palmolive and Johnsons & Johnsons for their kind donations.
